Welcome to the United States Air Force Senior Leader Orientation Course (SLOC)! SLOC is an executive-level learning program offered annually to the newest USAF general officers (GOs), Senior Executive Service (SES) members, and Defense Intelligence Senior Executive Service (DISES) members.
SLOC has a long Air Force history. It began in 1962, at the direction of the Air Force Chief of Staff (CSAF), as the USAF Brigadier General Orientation Course (BGOC). In the 1980s and early 1990s, following the creation of the Senior Executive Service, the Air Force created a separate SES Orientation Course (SESOC). In 1994, Air Force combined the BGOC and SESOC to create SLOC, the first Department of Defense (DoD) joint military-civilian executive orientation program
SLOC will be held 23-28 July 2017 at the General Jacob E. Smart Conference Center (Smart Center) on Joint Base Andrews, MD for both members and spouses.
Spouse participation during SLOC is encouraged to provide a better understanding and appreciation of the roles and responsibilities of USAF senior leaders. Attendance at SLOC is an official TDY for both members and spouses with invitational travel orders for spouses provided at unit expense.
All cancellation requests (AD, ANG, AFR, & SES) must be approved by the member's MAJCOM CC or equivalent (i.e., via memo or email). Cancellation requests will be routed through AF/DPG for final approval by CSAF, the SLOC sponsor. Cancellation approval is not required for spouses.
The Air Force General Officer Management Office (AF/DPG) is the office of primary responsibility for SLOC. AF/DPG Staff are assisted by component POCs from the Air Force Senior Executive Management Office (AF/DPS), the National Guard Bureau General Officer Management Office (NGB/CF), and the Air Force Reserve Senior Leader Management Office (AF/REG).
